What Is Neuropathy?
Peripheral neuropathy occurs when nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord become damaged, irritated, or dysfunctional.
Your nervous system functions as the body's communication network. Nerves carry messages from your brain to your muscles, organs, skin, and other tissues.
When these nerves become damaged or irritated, those messages may not travel properly, resulting in symptoms such as pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, or altered sensation.
